Ionic icon-only button

10xTeam November 08, 2023 2 min read

To create an Ionic icon-only button with a barcode icon, you can use the following code:

<ion-button icon-only color="primary">
  <ion-icon name="barcode-outline"></ion-icon>
</ion-button>

This code will create a button with a barcode icon on it. The icon-only attribute tells Ionic that the button should only have an icon and no text. The color="primary" attribute tells Ionic to use the primary color for the button.

You can also add a click event listener to the button to perform an action when it is clicked. For example, the following code will open the barcode scanner when the button is clicked:

<ion-button icon-only color="primary" (click)="scanBarcode()">
  <ion-icon name="barcode-outline"></ion-icon>
</ion-button>

The scanBarcode() function is a function that you define in your component. This function can be used to open the barcode scanner and perform any other necessary actions.

Here is an example of a complete Ionic component that creates an icon-only button with a barcode icon and opens the barcode scanner when the button is clicked:

import { Component, OnInit } from '@angular/core';
import { BarcodeScanner } from '@capacitor-community/barcode-scanner';

@Component({
  selector: 'my-app',
  templateUrl: './app.component.html',
  styleUrls: ['./app.component.css']
})
export class AppComponent implements OnInit {

  constructor() { }

  ngOnInit() { }

  async scanBarcode() {
    // Open the barcode scanner.
    const result = await BarcodeScanner.startScan();

    // Check if the scan was cancelled by the user.
    if (result.cancelled) {
      return;
    }

    // Get the scanned barcode text and format.
    const barcodeText = result.text;
    const barcodeFormat = result.format;

    // Do something with the scanned barcode text and format.
  }
}
<ion-button icon-only color="primary" (click)="scanBarcode()">
  <ion-icon name="barcode-outline"></ion-icon>
</ion-button>

You can also use CSS to customize the appearance of the button. For example, the following CSS will change the button color to blue and make it larger:

ion-button.barcode-scanner-button {
  color: blue;
  font-size: 20px;
}

You can add this CSS to your global stylesheet or to the stylesheet for your component.
